No doubt if you’ve found my project blog then you might want to know something about me. I’m Ian, 23 and from Newport in Wales, though am currently a student at Birmingham University.
Thanks to being dyspraxic, I was computer literate before I could talk. I’ve been using computers since I was 2. The 1st that I could call my own being an IBM 486 which I had in 1995 after it was a year old. It was replaced in 1999 and my 2nd computer, which was itself replaced in 2004; I only binned my 2nd one in 2006. My existing computer was rebuilt from the one I had in 2004, after having to wait 7 weeks while it was under repair because the company didn’t have the exact CPU model in stock. That computer is now a year old, but the hard disk was the same as original one (and has since failed). The components are far from high-end now (which they were when I had my 2004 machine), so I’ve decided to replace it; the new computer is now running but still needs the finishing touches to be the computer I’ve wanted to have.
Aside from computing, I’m heavily involved in radio broadcasting, mainly at a student level. I’m the current Midlands officer of the Student Radio Association and am therefore the 1st point of contact for 9 student stations in the country.
As a result of being involved in radio I need a computer that’s powerful at encoding. I use Adobe Audition for audio editing; my current desktop loads a 1 hour mp3 in twice the time of my new Core 2 T7700 laptop; so it was time to replace Pentium powered desktop.
This blog is purely for the new computer I aim on building within the 12 months to August 2008, though I’m hoping to finish it sooner; that depends on DDR3 and Penryn being mainstream and cheap but I’m happy to wait for that to happen.
