Ok so ive got bored of looking at the same boring old (CPC readers drive winning) pc for nearly a year now... so ive decided to design myself a new pc! For the contest of the Dutch hardware and casemodding-site BouwEenPc.nl, a DVD-drive needed to be modded. They didn't really give a lot of instructions, so we were free to make just about anything. I choosed to make an external drive using acrylic as basic material, which is to be lit up with (blue?) leds. I started from zero, with really no basic concept. By just drawing some shizzle onto the acrylic..
The front was harder than it looks, first I wanted the front to come off and there was no where to attach the metal panel to the front panel. So I had to pop rivet the metal panel to the case 30mm behind of the front panel, so a lot of bending and bending and more bending, I..

The stuff I had ordered turned out to be really pale, which I was just going to go with until I found that Hindleys had fluorescent blue acrylic. That's what I'd had in mind for the project from the start, but had been unable to find, so I figured..

The last panel to fabricate is the rear panel. The components are already in the case, so I measure and transfer the required dimensions to the acrylic panel. I used the rotary tool for all cuts; the circle-cutting attachment for the 90mm exhaust fan, and the straight edge guide for all the other cuts.
I haven't done much to the rig over the past couple of days. I did manage to tidy the cables up: BEFORE AFTER It's not perfect, but it will do for now. Front Panel - What to do? I have been giving the front panel some thought and it's received a mixed response from others. Some have said that it's too simple, while..
