Windows Home Server - Worth It?

Paul

Posted in Networking on November 20, 2007 at 10:34 pm

So Microsoft has finally decided to make a product to bring servers to the masses, it’s designed to be controlled by the end user from an RDP-enabled PC and it’s designed for people who have no knowlege of administration, but I have to ask, is it worth it? Read more

AMD’s 690G Chipset

Paul

Posted in Hardware on November 13, 2007 at 7:23 pm

Since AMD took over ATi some of the products have to be honest, been lacking that oomph that people look for in a graphics card or CPU. The looks on the ATi cards make you go WOW! but the performance leaves a little to be desired. But it’s not all power-guzzling graphics cards and CPU’s; AMD has released a chipset, it’s first since the takeover of ATi and it has some nice features.

Creative FATAL1TY Headset

Paul

Posted in Reviews, Hardware on November 12, 2007 at 7:56 pm

It’s no secret that for FPS gaming you need a headset. Why? Well when you use speakers some of the energy sound waves have is lost because air is quite dense and this creates a lot of resistance, this means weaker sounds are lost whereas a headset has less air to push against because of the distance so the sound is clearer. Quite simple physics. I found this out and decided to get myself a pair of headphones and these caught my eye.

Free WiiMote Covers!

Paul

Posted in Consoles on October 18, 2007 at 12:23 pm

We all know the problem with said remotes it that unless you hold them with a grip of iron they’re likely to just slip out of your hand and go crashing to either the floor or straight into something valueable and/or expensive. Nintendo have recognised this and rather kindly are offering protective jackets, for free! get them from here:

http://wii.nintendo.co.uk/22690.html

You can have up to 4 per serial number (the max number of controllers the Wii can handle) and there are no charges attached. Might get my uncle to order these as my cousin has chucked one before, fortunately landing on a carpet.

What GTS?

Paul

Posted in Hardware on October 17, 2007 at 9:14 pm

Well it’s been nearly a year now and while my X1950 Pro has been a brilliant performer I think it’s time I went for DirectX10 to join everyone because I have Vista so, why not? Just how hard can it be to choose a card?

Well quite difficult actually.

You see with ATi the market is dominated by Sapphire, they produce the widest selection of cards by a long shot, in fact they produce 2 versions of the X1950 Pro! However with nVidia things are much more complicated; 3 companies dominate the high-end market; BFG, eVGA and XFX. Now they all have products in my price range for the 320mb 8800GTS, all around £180 to £200 however looking at the 640mb card the BFG is over £2o less! So my question is, does the BFG have that something missing that the other’s have or are they just over priced? Your comments would be most welcome on this issue.

And yes, I know the 8800GTS 320mb from BFG is recommended in Custom PC…

Omega Sektor: Review

Paul

Posted in Reviews on at 9:00 pm

Recently me and a couple of other people decided that we would visit Omega Sektor in Birmingham for a bit of gaming together. After agreeing a date (last Saturday) we decided to meet up at about 12:00. I arrived early so I had a quick look around the area, which is the first of my review parts.
