The Blank Screen

Today the RAM came and we put it in. It lookes brilliant because we put a red LED on it. I also put on the stickers that came with the processor. There is a scorpian, a spider and a tribal thingy, all of which have 64’s on them (because the processor is 64 bit). The scorpian is on the the front panel, the spider on the side and the tribal on the top. I would quiet like to engrave them in at a later date, but my dad dosen’t do extreme mods (like water cooling, not that I need it). We had to go down to Maplin to get a GPU for the Luna. We got a XFX GeForce 7100gt. We also had ordered a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit a couple of days ago, but when we tried to install it, disaster struck. I pluged in the monitor and nothing happened. It just displayed no video input. I changed the monitor and it was exactly the same, no video input. I was up to 11 o’clock tring everything, from the RAM configuration to the PCIE slots. Nothing. Didly Squit. But then I had a look at the POST LCD on the back of the motherboard. It was saying CPU INIT which, acording to the manual, stands for CPU initialisation. Please comment if you no what it meanes. I presume that the graphics card is stuffed. The funny thing is, exactly the same thing happened the the other PC we are building. Maybe the PCIE slot on the old motherboard is broken and has damaged the old and new cards. I dunno.

The Build Weekend

olymat22

Posted in Uncategorized on November 27, 2007 at 9:54 pm

This weekend, I started the build (I would have wrote the post earlier but the blog was playing up). I had to stay at my Grans house on Friday so I couldn’t start, but the next morning I was on it. But my Dad had an idea. He thougt that we may aswell use all the old parts from my old PC (seaing as I needed a new everything) and put them in a new case. We went of to Aintree (Liverpool) retail park and had a look in Maplin and PC World. There was a Jeantech Luna 220mm LED which has a HUGE 220mm (get a ruler) fan on the side. It had spaces for two 120mm fans and you could see the front one through a grill. So we got a blue LED one and a black one for the back.We got home and started building, but my dad was stoped in his tracks as there weren’t enough motherboard screws with the case. We also got a load of other bits (a chipset fan for a HDD box, motherboard washers and screws, double sided sticky tape, a multi coloured fan, epoxy glue, superglue) over the weekend. There wernt may problems, apart from my hands are covered in sores and wounds and the fan for the HDD box was too thin and we had to superglue it to the box. I would have put some pics but I cant get wordpress to do my images!!! I don’t like it!!!

RAM (Ramdom Access MISTAKE)

olymat22

Posted in Uncategorized on November 21, 2007 at 5:43 pm

DAM! I just found out that the RAM I already have in my exisisting PC is DDR and my motherboard takes DDR2! The reason I hadn’t known this is because the old motherboard was top spec when we bought it and so I presumed it was DDR2. I would have checked the manual but I thought I had lost it. It turns out it was in a drawer in a desk! So, I am going to have to get some new ones. Out with the elite products section of CPC. I want some decent RAM (but not to pricy) so I am going to go for a set of  Crucial Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA804. It is a set of 2gb DDR2 RAM rated at PC2-6400 (800mhs) and has latency timings of 4-4-4-12. CPC say they overclock very well too.

ARRRRRR!!!!!!

Well, I suppose you are wondering about the title then. It’s because the BT Shop haven’t responded to my dads emails, so we are going to get our money back and getting the cooler from another shop (probably Maplin). The PSU also came today, and I was amazed how many cabels there were (my old one had much less). It looked brilliant with the blue LED’s and the heatpipe, and I am really pleased with how they wraped the cables. I was also amazed how quiet it was. I found this out with a PSU tester.

Juice?

I was looking at all the coponents and thought that my older PSU might not power them all. I also would like modular cables and SLI compatability. I probably wouldn’t need a bigger PSU, but I thought I may aswell put a new one in while rebuilding the PC as I plan to put 2 BFG Nvidia 8600 gt’s in at a later date. I decided on a Zalman ZM-750 (not sure about the 50?) because it has SLI compatability, modular cables, heatpipe cooling and an LED fan. I am going to stick with my 7600 gs for the mean time because it dose the trick, but it struggles in Supreme Commander.

Today we put he processor in. It went in smoothly without any problems, although it took more force than expected. It’s so good to be putting some parts in!

Problem!!!

olymat22

Posted in Uncategorized on at 2:44 pm

Today the motherboard and heatsink arrived. The motherboard is great, but not the cooler.Firstly, I think it is going to clash with the PSU (but thats not why I don’t like it). And secondly, the fan had been mounted too high, and was scraping the copper fins. We went on to BT Shops’ website (where we got it from) and tried to change it. However, it would take 6 weeks! and all the parts are for Christmas. We also went to Maplin Electronics and got some bits and bobs (anti-static wrist strap, cables ect.).

Step 2

Today, I got the processor. I also found out that because the processor didn’t come with a heatsink, I would need a new one. I dicided on a zalman cnps9700 led becuse it was rated well on issue 44. The reason I didn’t get the scythe infinity is because i want it to look good. We also ordered the motherboard today.

Step One

Hi, and welcome to my plog. I am remaking my pc because it won’t run new games(sega rally, call of duty 4)becaus it only has a 1.8ghs athlon 64. It wouldn’t even overclock! Most of the current pc is good (ie.the case + hdd) but the motherboard and processor aren’t very good. I have been doing some research and I am going to get an amd athlon 64 x2 2.6ghs black edition and an asus crosshair. I figure this would be good for overclocking as you can ajust the multiplier settings on the processor and cpc recomend the motherboard. My dad has just ordred the processor for me, as I am only 11.It should come in a couple of days. Just a note, I want my PC to look good, because it is fully made of clear acrillic.
