Ok, this is my first attempt at a full case mod and blog. I will try an update everyone weekly, but due to other commitments (work and gaming, one I hate and one I love) it might not be every week.
This mod is more of an extension of an existing mod. I started with a Lian-Li V1000 case which I wanted to watercool, and cut the wholes for the watercooling kit. I then decided that the case is too small and cramped to work in. After reading the latest issue of Custom PC, where one of the readers modded a server case, thought thats it. I need a server case.
After hours of searching the internet and looking at my bank balance I found a bargain:
£4.99. Yep you read it right £4.99. The wonders of ebay. It is an old Gateway 8200 server. The internal bits of the case are covered in a thick layer of dust, which I have tried removing with a hoover and non-static cloth, to no avail. Instead I will remove all of the components to wipe down the case before modding it.
The case is large enough for me to watercool it and have plenty of room left over. For the outside of the case I plan to paint it black, then add a mesh over the top to give it a semi lian-li case look. I am also playing with the idea of having my gaming name included somehow (M3NTAL1TY_82), maybe in the mesh or under the mesh on the black case. I may even build a small enclosure for the water cooling to go on top of the case like this:
The watercooling kit I have is the Swiftech HS-20, and I have replaced the radiator with a 2x 120mm size radiator. I will load pics up next week of the watercooling kit components.
Watercooling is an unknown area for myself so should be a learning curve. If anyone can offer any advice at any stage it will be more than welcome. Well thats it for this week. Will be back with more updates soon.
