Charity Mods

Here is a small idea for all you folk out there with old bits and pieces of hardware sitting around.  I have done this myself and found it very rewarding.  If you have hardware sitting around that you no longer use but its safe and still usable why not build a machine an mod it to be suitable for nurserys or schools for people with disabilities.  I put my old athlon 3800+ together with  an 80gb ide hd and 1Gb pc 3200 RAM and an old radeon card.  I put them in an old case which i painted bright yellow, cut out a window and filled with bright Cathodes.  I then donated it to a local school that looks after disadvantaged kids and kids with Autisim.  I dont know of any charities that collect such machines but i think most charities that have use for them will accept them as long as they have the facilities to check them for electrical safety.  The project didnt cost me anything financialy as i used spare parts etc that i already had. It was a very rewarding project and one which someone with even my limited modding skills could carry out.   I hope to carry out another one as soon as i have enough spare parts to make another machine.  When i do i will take some photos and post them here.  Anyway folks let me know your thoughts or if any of you have other suggestions throw them in too.  Cheers

Scott
