Struck Off

That’s it, it’s been three great years since I bought it but I finally burned out on Counter-Strike Source. the game’s not supposed to be work so I’m giving it a break and will see if it starts being fun again by only coming back around Readers’ Night, that’s if I don’t uninstall it.

It’s not the wait for the CPC Server, the TKs (to which I freely admit to causing once too often), I took a similar break last year for a solid amount of time. However, Team Fortress 2 has arrived which is just as hardcore, but there’s less delay to respawn and it’s generally bright and colourful. Also featuring a faster respawn is ET Quake Wars at a bargain price.

It hasn’t escaped my notice that Unreal Tournament returns next week and the podcast has confirmed that the bouncy shiny and fast gameplay mechanics remain the way they were in the last three games. On the same day the sequel to Supreme Commander arrives. With these new games next week and Crysis landing yesterday, it’s just time for a change.

Heh, this has happened all too many times with me and friends. The problem is the “Great CS:S Curse”, which forbids any person who has played it for more than a year to leave it for more than 6 months.

Its the solid, simple gameplay that keeps people coming back time and time again. I’ve played TF2, ET:QW and CoD4, and none of them can truly match it for excitement.

I shouldn’t need to tell you, but it’s a warning. There will come a time when you will return to CS:S, and learn it all over again; You will realise just how fun it was, and fall in love again.

I’m saying this because i’m currently in one of these “No Source” periods, and I feel the lure of my Steam desktop icon taking… over.. me…? Errr…. i’ve got to… go… eat… salad?
