It’s important that when a piece of hardware dies for some unknown reason, we go to great lengths to ensure that it doesn’t cause a harmful environmental impact. That’s why I was happy that I’ve ended up buying into ROHS equipment almost by accident this year when upgrading my Mum’s motherboard and a mate’s power supply.
However, what to do with a long-dead hard disk is another question. I’ve only thrown out one of these and regretted it, so kept all the rest. Thankfully there’s only one Western Digital model among them which I allowed to freeze to death - all the other models including those under 1Gb, still work to this day.
If you’ve any other suggestions for how to recycle dead hard disks effectively, I’ve love to hear them - I thought of one idea already (pictured).
