Under-estimated Power of 7600GT’s

Elemental Dragon ¦ Bex

Alot of people turn their noses at the suggestion of a 7600GT, and most magazines will rate it poorly, but is it truely such a bad card? It may come accross as being biased opinions, but I wish to disagree.

On my many paths of upgrading, I changed many things to do with my PC. With my PC now complete and stable, what more could I want? Nothing, until these gorgeous 24″ Dell monitors came into work…

Dell 24″

Now, alot of you are going to point out that a 24″ runs at 1920×1200 and immediately think, “pfffft it’ll never run that!”. However, I’d like to surprise you :)  My 2 ickle baby 7600GT’s already proved themself worthy in benchmarking, can they do it for real? Well, lets try Oblivion! Using a modded SLI profile based on the game I get smooth perfect playback with AA and AS on. Same for TDU, however, I notice in both games HDR fails to succeed. This is mostly because my card lacks this feature, but with smooth frame rates, how can I argue?

I don’t find HDR too important right now, so the lack of HDR doesn’t bother me much. In terms of money, the cards worked out good value (around £140 for the pair tops). I know in future I’ll need the HDR aswell as a bigger “oomph” from my cards, but for now, I’m happy with all that I have.

A big monitor, smooth playback and next month - the internet! w00t!!!

Couldn’t agree more. My 7600GT’s from XFX served me extremely well. Infact I’m sure the pair of them were better than my single 8800GTS is now.

As you say I never had a problem with oblivion. I don’t now either but it’s not what I’d call better. Wonder why I bothered upgrading.

I have the MSI NX7600 GT Diamond Plus and i love it. I’m running a Sony 50″ 1080p screen off it and boy does Doom look great. Oblivion is a little jumpy out side but i can live with that with all the settings on high. It also has HDR, Dual core(until i upgraded to Vista) and HDMI output. Capture doesn’t work either now i’ve migrated to Vista. Wish i’d bought two for SLI while they were easy to get hold of.

kl i see your point
oh and your cards do support HDR but you cant have both HDR and AA
Personally i prefer AA
but HDR looks really cool in the tunnels in TDU
try it out :)
