4 hours work! This is a message for anyone who installs ZoneAlarm on Vista, make sure you allow access to Windows Modules Installer BEFORE you attempt to update your Computer. I tried every fix known to man but nothing worked apart from deleting SoftwareDistribution in C:/Windows and then restarting the Update Service and then.. ZoneAlarm informed me to allow access. To which I said yes.
I downloaded .bat registry fixes, .dll fixes everything but ZoneAlarm it was. Perhaps a note ZoneAlarm makers maybe auto allow Windows Update and Modules Installers next time
O and a link to my new card coming tomorrow;

zonealarm is dog crap.
it works fine until u have to uninstall it, then it screws up your windows admin rights so u can’t install or remove other software.
Might have thought to turn off the firewall and then update eh? It’s the sometimes the last thing I think of to if I’m honest. Get Comodo though, Zonealarm has been on the Vista incompatibility list since it’s release.
I got annoyed with ZA always locking down. Went with OnlineArmor in the end. Dose have the annoying added feature of asking about EVERY prog that’s allowed to run. Handy for stopping that god damn Apple ones.
Thanks people, I like Zone Alarm’s protection but it does drive me crazy!! Thanks feathers633 for the info, I may have to stick with ZA now for the whole life of my PC
But I might be building/modding my own so stay tuned!
Still no word from Aria about my GPU. Umm… guess I’ll just have to wait until tomorrow.
Good post Doc. Before Vista launched I would have defended the free ZA against all critics - it was a blunt instrument that blocked stuff you wanted as well as spyware, but it pioneered the simplified firewall interface. I only stopped using it when it proved incompatible with my router.
But now, I can’t believe ZA *returned* to the incompatibility list with XP Service Pack 3 as well as Vista SP1. The company’s lazy as hell, whenever I go back to Vista I’ll just stick with the SP1 firewall and the hardware one in my router.
I couldn’t agree more. SP1 on Vista does make File Transfers faster, thank goodness! It still takes its time though I tested Ubuntu on the same 2GB file and it took a whopping 5 times quicker than Vista which is amazing!!
I only got ZA as they made a new version. You know I think Microsoft need to take note, perhaps buy ZoneAlarm rights and intergrate it into OS 7. UAC is already almost exactly the same thing but for changes to files.
