Well, shall I and can I? I read about it in Custom PC. So is it worth it? Can someone help!! I have a Dell Dimension E520 whats the boards SPL for ClockGEN and is it safe?
It’s a bit of pain to find out what the chip is - you basically have to do trial and error in ClockGen, selecting each one in turn and seeing if the program accurately picks up the FSB/PCI speeds. But once it’s done you can easily add a bit of speed to the system - the advantage with overclocking with Clockgen is that it can’t change voltages, so there’s very little danger of damaging the PC. The worst it will do is crash.
Thanks for your help. I will try.
Didn’t think Dell had their components down for that. I would imagine it will crash.
hi, i have the same pc and the same problem realy, i know the chip details etc but wen i try to up the fsb even by 1hz the whole system goes tits up
would buying a new motheboard and operating system in a new case solve the problem or would the pc still be a ‘dell’?
cheers
I also have the Dell Dimension E520 and have been wondering the same thing about using clock gen. And using a new motherboard would not make it a dell anymore. Dell doesn’t actually make any of the parts in the computer.
Interesting… Hopefully I will be getting a laptop. But in the mean time I am still wondering whether I can salvage some things from this PC. I think as you say, as Dell make none of the parts I can reuse them, the processor +memory and maybe the case.
