Hi I’m Daniel, I’m 13 Years Old, And I’ve Just Started To Build My Own PC Based On The Guide In Issue 55 Of CustomPC, With A Few Tweaks! I Will Be Documenting My Progress Over The Next 6 Months To 1 Year With My PC.
Brave move, all the best to you, but why will it take a year? Is the pocket money tight?
Max, that comment is out of order. I started at the age of 13 using pocket money and now, almost 3 years on I’ve got a pretty awesome system. (((Click my name below.))) I too learned from magazines (for me it was computer shopper) and have managed through my knowledge to get myself a job designing and building custom PCs for a company based in watford.
Anyway. Dannyredfish, what specs are we looking at for this machine? what are you going to be using it for?

Unfortunately you missed the point of the comment, but then again you are half my age. I would advise against what you are doing. I made the same mistake when I built my first pc, I was short of cash at the time and brought the minimum components, ie 1gb ram, cheap case and psu and I spent the next 3 years throwing money at it to fix the bottlenecks and problems, it ended up costing me a fortune and by the time I got the system I wanted, it was outdated and struggling. Hence I built myself a new one and got the very best first time round and didn’t skimp. I suggest that you save money and when you have enough buy the right components, don’t buy piecemeal, because you will end up replacing component after component and it will never be quite right. Technology moves so fast that what you buy now will be slow and expensive to upgrade in a year. Learn from my experience.
My new system.
Asus striker 2 extreme
intel 3.0ghx dual core
4gb ddr 3 ram
8800gts (old card)
6 hd drives in various configs
XP32, vista32 vista64 multiboot
blu ray drive
enermax galaxy psu
next stage is to watercool the integrated northbridge and a new graphics card, then surround sound and a new monitor
Daniel i think what your doing is fantastic, but i have to say if your money is tight build a mid range system and overclock because it can save you hundreds, im 16 and i have 3, yes 3 jobs, i cant fork out 1k for a top of the range PC so i build a decent system around 600 - 800 that i know will run anything, why try and get top of the range everything when you know the mid range stuff can be just as quick, just got to look after it

Good to see someone else taking the plunge, and in the right place! Building a computer has its ups and downs, but once you’ve done it, you’ll know much more about computers than by just reading CPC.
The best sites for buying parts are (IMO):
www.novatech.co.uk
www.scan.co.uk
www.aria.co.uk
I’m sure the people at CPC forums will be more than happy to help you out with tweaking your system.
Thanks for all the kind words of advice everyone.
