Build Time

damfoose

Posted in Built it on January 4, 2008 at 4:04 pm

Had to wait a little while before i could get to the case but i finally managed to get it from behind the tree where it was being hidden.

First things first lapp the cooler its quite rough. Then install memory , memory cooler , CPU and CPU cooler onto motherboard. Fit mobo into the case and supprisingly enough it sloted in nice and easy compaired to some PC’s ive put together.

Next thing install hard drives, floppy and DVD RW now the hard part all them cables just can not come around the front and dangle everywhere.

Loverly case it has space at the back of the mobo tray between it and the outer cover for cables to be run. Duly done all cables are hidden around the back.

Right now for the hard part goto power up and set up the bios oh easy set memory and cpu timings , set up raid 0 , Install OS and take a look. Their were no problems at all putting this together or even getting it to boot.

overclocking is having to wait until I get a beefier cooler im just not happy with the current one.

EvE rig almost finished

damfoose

Posted in Got more bits on December 24, 2007 at 10:31 pm

Well went to get some ISK ermmm cash from the cash point today and blow me ive been payed :) time for a trip to scan.

Now have XFX 780i MoBo, XFX 512 mb 8800GTS @ 650 mhz, 2 GiG Corsair Dominator memory, 2 320 GiG Samsung Spinpoints going to raid them for speed. and a Samsung 20x speed DvD RW. And last bit because I could not wait a few days an Alaska Revo cooler it looks impressive enough and weighs almost nothing so im dubious.

Any way first snag the case is in its delivery box which is by the TV stand not a problem in itself but the TV stand has been moved to the left and the chrimbo tree put in front of the case box including presents on the floor , Yay for the misses I think. So instead of fevereshly putting all the nice shiny new components into the nice shiny antec p182 SE case im stuck with everything piled up next to the presents.

Oh I forgot the last item to have been retreved from SCAN was a pesent from the wife an Acer 24″ wide screen monitor which as you can guess is still boxed and untouched. All I can say is roll on chrimbo day so I can get my new RIG built oh and open the other stuff thats waiting for me,

Best of all its christmas and I have a young boy can you say TOY’s im going to get to play with some awsome stuff again this christmas until he takes it all up to his room.

Found CPU and MOBO

damfoose

Posted in Uncategorized on December 2, 2007 at 10:47 pm

Well after much hunting ive found a CPU and MOBO to fill the cavity of my case. Both items found on E-Bay second hand used but working. Some will only buy new but why waste the cash when second hand that is tested and working will do.

CPU is a Qx6850 found and negotiated for £380 including P&P the second the MOBO Asus Striker Extreme £100 missing doughter sound card but comes with X-Fi gamer edition for £100 with all cables and disks used for 2 months bargin.

Saved a small fortune total less than £500 and looking at scan it would be over £750 for both that saving enables me to get a second Scan 8800 gtx graphix card at £271 ( scan wont say whos it is but im thinking its a good one looking at its specs )

Keep checking for more news as this thing is built…

PSU fitting

damfoose

Posted in Uncategorized on November 16, 2007 at 6:12 pm

The Enermax Galaxy as known is a big beast almost a foot long and heavy. This can cause problems when you want to squeeze it into your prefered case.

Here are pointers for fitting one into an Antec P182 case yes it does fit but only just.

First take both side pannels off your going to need full access for this then you have to remove the internal lower case fan from the PSU / HD compartment also the PSU cage from the case.

Now working from the side where the MOBO tray is closest to the side pannel you need to bend the fan mounting bracket towards the front of the case by about half to a full one centimeter this gives you just enough room to squeeze the PSU into the case. Keeping the PSU fan at the top and the wiring harness towards you so they can snake up the MOBO outer tray slide the PSU into place and screw the PSU to the case itself . Now carefully bend the fan holder back to where it was, Plug in the extra wires into the PSU as required and route them as required , Now if you do this right you can put the lower fan back but on the opposite side from where you took it from not forgetting to turn the fan around the opposite way on its mounting before you clip it back into the case so it is blowing the correct way.

Things to note here I dont have any hard drives yet to test for space between the lower HD caddy and fan so im still unsure if the fan is going to work or if it needs to be removed totally , If it does then im sure the two fans that are in the PSU will be enough to drag air through the lower part of the case to keep the PSU and drives cool.

We have power Mr Sulu

damfoose

Posted in Power on November 14, 2007 at 11:47 pm

Contemplated for a while about power supply plenty out their all with great reviews but one kept getting rave reviews not only because of its accessories but also its actual ability to be able to provide power for the most power hungry machines with out over or under volting the components, After much searching and price comparrising I found the offending piece of equipment on E-bay box opened once for the pictures and to see fi it would fit in sellers case which it did not. Total cost £131 including P&P ….. The lucky contender to be hidden in the Antec P182SE is an Enermax Galaxy 850watt PSU. On to the next bit now I suppose……….To be continued

The case

damfoose

Posted in First bit on October 25, 2007 at 8:23 pm

antecp182se.jpgWhat case to use looks are important , As I said earlier I really wanted something subtle but lookie lookie , So out come the last 6 months of CPC mag’s i’d seen something in them but which one issue where had I seen the thing of dreems ? ahhh found it September issue page 23 the Antec P182SE that mirrored finish has goto be one of the most understated looks around, So whats next ? Goto search Google uk see who has it in stock and for what price took some serious humming and haring but found one for what is a reasonable price especially for what it is, Yep people spend more some spend less but around £130 including P&P im not going to complain , I know what internal parts im after mostly !!!! Asus Striker extreem MoBo and a Quad Extreme QX6850 CPU not sourced these yet, But from their im still deciding check back later to see whats been found and bought for the next part of the build.
