Fan-nying around

retrogamer1990

Posted in Uncategorized on November 15, 2008 at 10:00 pm

okay a quick update for you

I have replaced all the stock fans with nice blue ones, added some ac-ryan fan grills, and am working on modding the molex powered fans into 3 pin ones.
also i have added a lian li DVD bezel / faceplate , which required chopping up the 5.25″ holder bracket!
I have also bought the extreme watercooling kit from tom over at chilledpc!

here are the pics:

Look at all those lovely fans just waiting to be modded!

Begone you evil molex connector! Before and after:

as a side note, check out the cheapness of the fans….made in Taiwan? Pah…

…more like made in china!! WTF? they cant even be bothered printing a proper label!?

I really like the Lian-Li Faceplate, it looks much better than stealthing it using a leftover stock faceplate, and a thousand times better than looking at an ugly plastic blu ray drive’s front.

Drive-ing Me Mad

retrogamer1990

Posted in modding it! on November 6, 2008 at 11:55 pm

Okay I finally got round to doing some stuff! I have modded the TJ07 hard drive caddy and mounted it in the 5.25 inch bay, to make room for the triple radiator coming soon! sorry for the poor quality pics, only using my N95’s camera.

here is the before:

  06112008495.jpg

and after:

04112008487.jpg

you can see I removed the fan and cut off the brackets holding it. I then drilled 4 3mm holes to mount it sideways in the 5.25 inch bay.

you can see my scrawly measurements here

04112008488.jpg

As you can see in the first picture, I havent files the edges properly as yet. I will before it gets powdercoated black. The Aluminium also look terribly scratched because of the stupid flash. Its not that bad really, and it wont show after the powdercoat.

I mounted it using 3mm nuts and bolts through the holes I drilled

06112008491.jpg

Yay! It fitted!

Well, actually, thats a lie. to get the front faceplates on I had to cut away a little of the bracket that holds it in place, but its no problem as it still screws on fine. I just used a cutting tool and made a large groove either side I wanted to get rid of and just bent it back and forth until it fell off. If that made no sense, this picture will tell you a thousand words. before is on the right and after on the left. crappy games workshop cutting tool on the floor.

06112008494.jpg

The finished mod! It’s very secure and could hold three hard drives. and for free! (well, apart from the bolts and nuts, but they are about 1 penny each)

the only thing I will say thats negative is that it makes four 5.25″ bays unusable, and a regular 5.25 to 3.5 only uses one.  BUT MINE IS FREE!

Whats A Man To Do?

retrogamer1990

Posted in on October 16, 2008 at 7:36 pm

okay, Here is my “To Do” List on Project Brusier in the next few weeks. Stay Tuned!

Firstly, Install the watercooling! It hasnt come yet, but that is the top prority.

Second, Install the UV Cold Cathode. This will really set off the UV reactive coolant and spiral wrap, and possibly tan me at the same time ( i hope not)

Third is to Tint the window. Mad? Perhaps, but it will definately make it look a lot nicer, with no real effort.

Fourth, and i dont know when this will happen, is to get the things insides painted up to match the black, instead of horrid silver.

If anyone wants to sponsor me then feel free, I will gladly spread the word about your generosity!

thanks for reading and watch this space!

Should I give Up, Or Should I just Keep Changing Cases?

retrogamer1990

Posted in Changing Cases on at 7:20 pm

Sorry For the Naff pictures, but i had to use my phone.

So yesterday the new case finally arrived , in the worlds largest box it seems. A Silverstone TJ07B-W (crazy but cool!). It looks fantastic, even more so in the flesh (or aluminium) and is well worth the money, and has a silly amount of space. I have placed a standard CD next to the box to show just how big it is in the picture.

Massive.

okay, so, I proceeded to rip out the bits from my old case, I am a bit of a noob, so it took a few hours to transfer it all.

I was a bit peeved when i saw that the insides of the case were still silver. I suppose i will just have to get them painted later on.

Silver Lining? No Thanks

Coincidentally, My new sound card and the RAM cooler arrived the very same day! what timing!

I had pictures of the transfer from one case to the other, but they came out so blurr, I decided against posting them, sorry!

this is the only non-blurred picture, and you hopefully get the gist of it.

Half way there, Livin’ On a Prayer

at this point, the PSU still needed installing, and everything needed connecting up.

The gap between the Dominator RAM cooler and the 4870×2 is a little too close for me, especially since the cooler is made of metal (short circuit anyone?) But I installed it anyway.

OOoooOOO….

the moment of truth finally arrived, and…(drum roll please…) I pressed the power button and….nothing. the fans never moved. the LEDs stayed unlit. Uh-oh.

It was too late to start on it again by now, so i had to leave it until today. It turned out that the GPU just needed a little wiggling to get it in. I discovered this after about 3 hours. I’ll never get those back.

Here is the basic template for this mod project in all its glory! (Dont give me abuse about my cable Tidy-ing, I havent finished yet!)

the random white spiral wrap is UV reactive, so when I add my UV cold cathodes (in post) It will look 100x better, i swear!

Behold!

Before I Begin…

retrogamer1990

Posted in Pre Build! on October 12, 2008 at 9:59 pm

Hello, and welcome to my Project Blog : Project Bruiser, which will be Started as soon as my case arrives next week, with the basic components I bought threw into a non-modded chassis for now.

This is my first ever build and therefore Mod, so advice would be greatly appreciated!

Free 450w PSU to anyone who correctly gets all the songs the titles of posts are from by he end of the project! (some will be a bit altered though to make it funny)

The components are as follows; E8400 (E0), 4870×2, Asus P5Q-E, 4Gb Of GEIL, A Blu ray drive, 650w BFG PSU and 1Tb Of storage.  Oh, and an X-Fi Elite.

Why Project Brusier you ask? Simple. The colour scheme will be black and blue, a Black Silverstone Temjin TJ07 With Window and hopefully blue watercooling liquid with blue fans.

I Intend to mount one, possibly two Radiators, with a 4870×2 waterblock and a CPU waterblock minimum, and perhaps NB blocks later on.

I Will Keep this blog as up-to-date as possible and as filled with awesomeness as possible! (I want to be in the Mag :D)

Here is the current system:  (the case is up for grabs on eBay if you are interested!)

In The Beginning…

…There Was This

(Two seperate Pics)

Thanks for reading and stay tuned…there is more to come!
