Phoenix Project Pt2

First thing is to thank Bassdominator for the comment and with the renaming of my blog. I like it, sounds quite 60’s American space programme ish (theres nothing wrong with retro). Meanwhile with my old PC stripped as far i wanted to go with the chassis, there was a couple of things to do to it before i started to paint it. In the first post i had removed the PSU mount and reworked a part or the front of it to accept the huge Thermochill PA120.3 radiator, the other thing left with the chassis was to cut a hole in the top also for the radiator.

The stacker is skinned with fairly thing Aluminium so the cutting wasn’t a problem, I had bought a annodised aluminium radiator grill for the Thermochill from Watercooling Uk in Manchester. I used the grill basically as a template , with the thin end of a double tipped “Sharpie” marker i just penned in the drill holes and then the basic outline of the fan aperture. We have a digital vernier gauge in work i used this to tried sort out the positioning of the grill. Using the small opening from the top mounted fan of the stacker case i just jigsawed the radiator opening out. I used a bosch metal jigsaw blade to cut it, it was pretty quick with very little trouble apart from the end few cuts when the panel started to vibrate slightly when cutting. Small tip if you are going to cut something similar apart from using plenty of WD40 is to do the cut with the chassis in one piece rather than taking the roof off to cut it, because i found the chassis being in one piece added rigidity and helped with the cut. The blades were about £8 from B&Q and i only used one but it was on it way out at the end.

That’s it for now, next thing to do is prepping the chassis and then to paint it. Just going for Plasticote gloss enamel black because of a great tutorial on MNPCTech (check the link for some shiny action)
